PAXTON, Mass. - Laurie Drazek's love for horses goes back more than 15 years. It all started when she went to an "Equine Day" in central Massachusetts.
"They educated me about horse rescue, horse slaughter," Drazek said.

- Field of Dreams Therapy Farm hopes to use horses as a healing device for people
- The farm looks to help people with disabilities, mental health issues and forms of trauma
- The goal is to start having regulars visit the farm starting this spring
- Horses from the farm are rescues, with some even being saved from slaughter
Sometime later, Drazek would adopt her first horses. Professionally, she's a social worker. It was always a dream to combine her day to day duties with her passion for horses.
"I had grief issues that I dealt with when I lost my grandmother and my dad about 20 years ago," Drazek said. "So, the horses did wonders for me, my mental health, and my well-being. So I said to myself, I need to put the two together."
And put them together she did. Drazek and her loved ones began building Field of Dreams Therapy Farm about two years ago. All of the horses are rescues, some being saved from the slaughterhouse floor.
The non-riding farm hopes to be a space to help people suffering from disabilities, mental health issues, and people dealing with trauma of some sort.
"Everyone has a part of their life where they don't feel valued," said Jodie Krueger, a volunteer at the farm. "So when you're here, you're with folks, or horses, that weren't valued and now they're here. So you get that simpatico relationship. It's give and take. Everyone feels valued and loved."
Drazek said clients will be able to interact with horses like Little Jack, Thunder and Sully by brushing them and going on walks with them.
The therapy farm is still in it's early stages of development as it's namesake, the field of dreams, is covered in mud. Their hope is to start welcoming people in this spring.
"The horses are magical," Drazek said. "So, you don't even have to do anything. They can just go out there and stand in a field with them with a positive energy. It's healing."
