Wilbraham police said they responded to a home on Old Carriage Drive just before 8:30 p.m.
They eventually exchanged gunfire with a man barricaded inside.
Massachusetts State Police assisted local law enforcement, and said state troopers with the tactical operations team entered the home with the assistance of the drone unit and arrested the man.
The suspect had gunshot injuries and was taken to the hospital under police guard.
State police said they rescued two people from the home who escaped to the roof of the adjoined garage before the arrest.
Wilbraham police and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office said the officer who was shot is in stable condition.
The incident is under investigation by the Wilbraham Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
