LEOMINSTER, Mass. – The Sutton girls soccer program may have moved up a division this year, but the result was the same. The Suzies claimed the Division IV state title Saturday with a 2-1 win over South Hadley at Doyle Field.
The win marked Sutton’s third straight state championship, the team earned the division five crown in 2021 and 2022.
Captain Anna Joseph opened the scoring in the first half, burying the rebound of a shot from fellow captain Addy Jerome. South Hadley got the equalizer moments later when Lauren Marjanski found Allison Flury to tie the game at 1-1.
Sutton took the lead in the second half when Jerome collected a pass, made a quick move and drilled a shot to the back of the net to give the Suzies a 2-1 lead.
That ended up being the final and Sutton celebrated another hard-fought win, the 11th state championship for the powerful girls soccer program.
