Some parents who were picking their kids up from Chicopee Comprehensive High School Wednesday morning were happy with the call.

"I think it's smart move, yeah.," said William Dempsey. "It's too hot. You got all those bodies there in the same room."

"Oh yeah, the kids like it too," said Samuel Sam. "They like getting out. It's supposed to get hot, hotter."

But not all parents thought dismissing due to heat was the right decision.

"I could see if they're having a problem with there air conditioning or something, yes I could understand an early dismissal, but it's fully air-conditioned," said Brandon Sulikowski. "Even all the shops here at Chicopee Comp are fully air conditioned, so I don't really see the necessity to have to get out of school."

Superintendent Marcus Ware said he understands the timing of an early dismissal may not be ideal, but while some learning environments are well air-conditioned, others are still a work in progress.

"Back when I was in school, we didn't have these days off like this," Sulikowski said. "So it kind of makes it hard for us parents when we have other stuff we have to do during the day."

"I guess it's supposed to cool down a little but, I don't know, I don't know," Sam said. "They might have to take another day early. We'll just have to wait and see. They'll just have to somehow make it up if they have to."

Students did receive a bag lunch at dismissal. Ware said the school district will be announcing all updates on the warm weather situation through their website and social media pages, so parents should be stay connected to those outlets for more information.
