"I came home from work, and yeah I was just making dinner and the all of the sudden, the car crashed through the house, and my mother in law was in the other room and she was just like, 'What happened?! What happened?!'" Sims said. "And I was like, 'I don't know, but you can't stand there and I had to get her out of the house."
Massachusetts State Police say the driver of a Nissan Altima was speeding away from a trooper attempting to stop him. A preliminary investigation showed the 19-year-old drove off the road, struck a rock wall, a large tree and a light post before hitting Sims’ neighbor’s parked vehicle.
Police said the teen driver was ejected from his car and died at the scene. Sims helped first responders find him.
"He said, 'Yeah I can't find the driver,' and then I heard something in the bushes," Sims said. "Like his arm limped down and hit some of the leaves and I flashed my flashlight and I seen a leg and they called everybody over and they were like 'Yeah, he's over here.'"
Sims said he slept in the car Sunday night due to the amount of damage to his home. He said the Red Cross is helping his family with living expenses, but he wanted to make sure no one else entered the home, which was inspected Monday.
"Just this morning they deemed the house 'condemned,'" he said. "And they were just putting caution tape on the house because that corner of the house in unstable. He said it could come down at any moment. As he was putting caution tape around, I'd seen some bricks coming down so it is quite unstable right now."
It's been a difficult process for Sims, who is unsure how his insurance will handle all the damage.
"This is going to be a long process," he said. "I don't know if they're going to have to tear the house down? If they'e going to fix it? It is an old house, 1800s. It's just waiting period now, I don't know what's going to happen."
Police said the investigation is still ongoing, but report no one else was hurt in the deadly crash.
