CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Hampden Probate and Family Court satellite office looks to keep providing quality customer service in its second year inside of Chicopee City Hall.

Register of Probate Rosemary Saccomani said there have been health concerns at the Springfield court house including issues with mold, so it was helpful to have another location.

"It's a full service location," Saccomani said. "The only we don't do there is court hearings. So you can file your divorce proceedings, your child support proceedings, modifications, you can get copies of your divorces, things of that nature. You can ask questions in regards to your state matters, filing of your wills. All those kinds of services the Chicopee location offers."

Saccomani said the Chicopee location has fielded more than 10,000 phone calls since opening up a year ago. She said wait times can be a huge challenge at the courthouse, so the satellite office offers convenience.

"Often times here you have 15-20 people waiting to be serviced here at the probate court in Springfield," Saccomani said. "Versus in Chicopee, you might have two or three people in the office at a time, so for those reasons it's helpful as well."

This office has staff who also speak multiple languages and it offers longer office hours.

Chicopee Mayor Vieau said having a satellite location is not only great for Hampden County, but it’s also another way to attract people into the downtown area.

"Those who again have issues with maybe a loved one or a will, or again family court related stuff that they have to deal with, those attorneys can come here to file paperwork, those people can come here and really get the services of the register probate right here in the City of Chicopee," he said.

Saccomani said the Chicopee location has been a success so far and she’s hoping to open other satellites throughout western Massachusetts.
