WORCESTER, Mass. - Promoting inclusivity and diversity was the goal of a very special photo shoot in Worcester Sunday.
Boston-based HumanKind casting and nonprofit Changing the Face of Beauty have launched their new collaboration in an effort to ensure casting becomes more intentional and inclusive. Sunday's photo shoot was geared toward younger kids who identify as living with a disability. They were able to sit in the makeup chair, have their hair done, and get in front of a real, professional camera. HumanKind's founder Kristie Raymond says the goal is to create greater visibility of people with disabilities in advertising and media.
"This is a perfect stop to really get an idea of what these kids can do," said Raymond. "And boy do they provide that. Killer acts in front of the camera, able to sort of express themselves in video, really giving them that little bit of a stepping stone so that we can then take their photos and videos, which we call part of our HumanKind originals portfolio. We market that directly to production and creative teams that are willing to take that step. We all want to be inclusive today. It's really about taking that to the next level and creating a feeling of belonging, that these kids belong in front of the camera and part of an ad campaign for almost anybody."
Raymond says they also held a shoot in Boston earlier this month, and later this year, have events organized in Rhode Island, Maine, as well as one in Marlborough this July.
