WORCESTER, Mass. - Residents in Worcester's Burncoat neighborhood spent a good part of their day Tuesday shoveling and clearing snow.

What You Need To Know

  • Residents in Worcester's Burncoat neighborhood spent a good part of their day shoveling and clearing snow

  • Those using shovels described it as a very wet and heavy snow.

  • Many are looking forward to next week, when the first official day of spring reaches the area.

Pat Pino is 78 years old and still heads out to clean up the snow every storm.

"I can handle it," joked Pino. "I'm resilient."

Pino joined her neighbors in the Burncoat area clearing off sidewalks and cars. She spread out her work, taking several treks outside during this storm.

"Last one of the year, hopefully," Pino said. "I like the snow. It's just inconvenient when you have to work."

Working is exactly what Patrick Staples was doing. Students may have had the day off, but this Worcester School Department employee manned the snow blower to clear the sidewalks in front of Burncoat Street Preparatory School.

"You know, clear the sidewalks for pedestrians and school kids," said Staples. "Hopefully they'll be in school tomorrow. It's better than the heat. I'm not cutting grass, I'm not weed whacking, so I enjoy this."

Staples may be in the minority, because others in the neighborhood didn't share in the same enjoyment.

"It's very annoying," said Boucarr Jalloh. "It feels like it weighs 300 tons."

"It is very very wet, and heavy to shovel it," said Alie Jalloh. "Oh my god. I'm sweating all over in this kind of weather. Cold, snowing."

"This could be the last one, hoping it's the last one," said Chuck Ballas. "Water levels are going to be down on the lake so I'm not going to be able to fish too much. But other than that, I hope it goes away."

For some though, there is a silver lining. Spring officially begins next week. It's a positive thought those shoveling as they clear the snow.

"Awesome," Ballas said. "I'm waiting for it to come. It can't come any earlier."

"I'm looking forward to it," joked Jalloh. "I can't wait for it to be here."
