CHICOPEE, Mass. - A new Community Behavioral Health Center has opened up in Chicopee through Gateway, the Center for Human Development.

Program director Christy O'Brien said the CBHC is designed to provide patients with a wide range of immediate services including same-day evaluations and referral treatment for both major and minor crises.

People who check into the facility, whether it be for anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts, will be able to receive different treatments ranging from help with medication to counseling.

O’Brien said it can be difficult for patients, particularly ones dealing with a substance abuse disorder, to navigate multiple hospitals and doctors offices, so having all of the resources under one roof can be a huge asset.

"We have really robust relationships with our area acute detox in-patient level facility," O'Brien said. "So if somebody really needs to be removed from the community in that way, we utilize our partnership and we arrange a place for them to go and to and to complete that level of care."

Anyone who would like to get in touch with CBHC can do so on their website.
