BROOKFIELD, Mass. - Bill Wells is in the middle of running six marathons in six days. The courses will take him across the entire state of Massachusetts.

The Wilbraham resident started his journey Monday at Fenway Park, and is running every day through Saturday.

"And really, the trick to this for me is, it's not just one day at a time," Wells said. "It's one mile at a time."

What You Need To Know

  • Wells started Monday, and will run across the entire state of Massachusetts

  • Wells and his partner, Pastor Darrin Ray, are looking to spread the gospel to the people of Massachusetts

  • Saturday will be Wells last day, as he will cross the New York border

Wednesday was day three of his trek. But, after running through Worcester Tuesday, he was feeling the impact of his travels.

"That rumor about the Worcester hills is real," Wells said. "A little sore, but nothing hurts."

After some snow and a morning filled with rain Wednesday, he faced a challenge in Mother Nature.

"The hardest part about today will be if I have to dodge puddles or not," Wells said. "Because if my feet get wet, that's when I get blisters."

Wells starts and ends his day with a church service. Tuesday ended at the St. Joseph Chapel at the College of the Holy Cross. Wednesday began at Quaboag Church.

Church is the reason for his journey. On this trip, he's hoping to encourage Bay Staters to get back in the habit of going to services.

"Massachusetts is one of the least religious states in the country," Wells said. "And that just hit me for some reason."

Wells has help with his mission. Pastor Darrin Ray isn't running, but is helping spread their message.

"Bill, being a runner, thought, how can I monopolize on that?" Ray said. "Or, how can I be able to do something that's unique and special with the gift and a talent that I have with a passion for the sake of the gospel?"

Wells will wrap up his week of marathons when he crosses the New York border. He's already planned his afternoon for the last day, and it includes a trip to get some fast food for lunch.

When asked what he'd be ordering, he said, "That would be the fish fillet."
