NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Tommy Car Auto Group president Carla Cosenzi is hoping her 'No Shave November' fundraiser will be able to support research in the fight against cancer.

"So my father, who is the founder of Tommy Car Auto Group, was diagnosed in 2007 with a glioblastoma brain tumor, stage four, extremely aggressive," Cosenzi said. "And Dana-Farber's helped him fight his battle for over two and a half years when his original prognosis was only six months."

Cosenzi said it was her father’s wish when he was diagnosed with cancer to raise money for Neuro Oncology Research so other families wouldn’t have to experience what his did. Tom Cosenzi passed away from brain cancer in 2009 at the age of 52.

Carla and brother Tommy Cosenzi have been hosting fundraisers out of their five locations in western Massachusetts for 14 years, including their annual golf tournament.

"Obviously it's near and dear to my heart because I lost my father from the cause," Cosenzi said. "My mother was also diagnosed with cancer right after my father passed away and Dana-Farber was able to save her life. But you know, not just for me but for everybody in our lives and in our worlds."

Cosenzi said the 'No Shave November' campaign in particular has gone on for about two years now and has raised over $12,000 in the process, with all of the funds being sent to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

"If you don't know somebody with cancer, you have a friend who has or knows somebody or had cancer, a family member," Cosenzi said. "It's everywhere, so the more we can do to get together and help find money for research or help find a cure, we just like to be involved in."

The cancer fundraiser will run through the end of November and anyone looking to make a donation can do so on the Tommy Car Auto Group website.​
