Republican incumbent Lew Evangelidis is claiming victory in the race for Worcester County Sheriff. He defeated Democratic challenger David Fontaine.
Evangelidis was first elected to the position in 2010. This will be his third term in the office. Previously, he served as state Rep. for the 1st Worcester District.
"When I ran for this job, I made some promises and I've kept those promises," Evangelidis said Tuesday evening after giving a victory speech. "Our administration is proud of the work we did. We focused on professionalism and public safety. We ended the culture of patronage politics, and I welcome the chance to bring that message to the people of Worcester County, that we care about public safety and we want to give people an opportunity to be rehabilitated."
