WORCESTER, Mass. - A jet ski ban is currently in place on Indian lake in Worcester, but the Indian Lake Community Association president said that’s just one piece of the puzzle to enhancing the area.
Carl Gomes said there was a master plan created for Indian Lake seven years ago, but said the environment has changed since then. He said there are now organizations in place, like the Worcester Green Plan, the Department of Sustainability & Resilience and the Worcester Tree Commission, and believes they should all have an input.
Gomes said they should bring all isolated pieces under one tent so they can develop a plan that is sustainable from now on to address all community needs.
“This is an underutilized resource not only for the abutters on the lake, but the entire community. And the jet skis have played a part in that because it doesn’t allow for past recreational family friendly activities,” Gomes said. “So the jet ski issue has to be resolved so that we can have a comprehensive recreational plan that makes this a family friendly resource for the entire community. So the jet skis is a critical conversation, but it cannot be an isolated conversation.”
Gomes said he would like to see an environmental, ecological and recreational center addressing all the issues affecting Indian Lake. The jet ski ban went into effect last August and is in place until September 2022.
