WORCESTER, Mass. - There will be no school on Tuesday for Worcester Public Schools students due to extremely low temperatures in the forecast.
Headstart and before and after school programs are also canceled. The Durkin administration building will be closed to the public.
WPS says the decision to close schools is due to the forecasted freezing temperatures expected. With COVID-19 regulations requiring school bus windows to remain open, the potential for frostbite existed. Additionally, with an increase of positive COVID-19 cases among transportation personnel, buses would be running about 30 minutes late, meaning students would be waiting at bus stops a longer amount of time than normal.
School is also canceled for Chicopee Public Schools and Pittsfield Public Schools.
According to the Spectrum News 1 forecast, an afternoon high of 10 degrees is expected on Tuesday with overnight lows falling below 5 degrees.
