WORCESTER, Mass.- As baseball fans anticipate the World Series, Polar Park encourages Worcester Red Sox fans to decorate pumpkins in baseball style for the inaugural “Polar Park Pumpkin Patch.”

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, pumpkins can be dropped off at the WooSox team store at Gate D on Madison Street. Pumpkins can be found on the "8th Hill” beneath the left-field video board.

The pumpkins should be dressed in baseball style, such as the WooSox mascot Smiley Ball and Woofster the Wonderdog.

WooSox president Dr. Charles Steinberg says there is a lot to celebrate in October, which is why the event combines both the World Series and Halloween.

“We hope that families can enjoy the decoration time and imagination time at home, and then proudly place their pumpkins on ‘The 8th Hill’ beyond our beautiful Berm on Plymouth Street,” Dr. Steinberg said. “ It’s just a simple, fun way for Polar Park to serve as a community gathering spot.”

With a jab at the Yankees, Dr. Steinberg says he is excited to see what fans dress their pumpkins up as.

“We will collectively watch as postseason unfolds to see which teams turn into a pumpkin,” Steinberg said.  “Obviously, there won’t be too many ‘pinstriped pumpkins’ submitted this year.”

The club will present prizes to the pumpkin entries at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Special recognition will be given to those who decorate their pumpkins as the Major League team who wins the World Series.
