WORCESTER, Mass. - A popular summer tradition is back in it's tenth=h year raising money for the Worcester County Food Bank.

The Worcester Hot Dog Safari is sending 400 taste testers to different restaurants and food trucks in an attempt to find the best hot dog in Central Massachusetts.

On Monday, organizer Tom Mahoney was at George’s Coney Island trying one of their iconic hot dogs.

Coney Island is one of the 11 locations participants will rank.

The event used to be held on one day, but organizers changed it to a week-long model last year due to COVID-19.

Many establishments are showcasing the different types of hot dogs they serve.

“I think it's all about simplicity. It's simple. It's cheap to make. You don't have to be a rocket scientist. It's a mystery. I think that's what we're getting after is trying to find out what that thing is. But we haven't found it yet,” Mahoney said. “Everybody just loves hot dogs. Every year we get more friends. It's awesome. It's a great event."

The Safari wraps up on Aug. 21 with a party at Ralph's Rock Diner on Grove Street where the winner will receive a hot dog-shaped trophy.

The Safari hopes to raise $5,000 for the Worcester County Food Bank by selling shirts and hats.
