WORCESTER, Mass. - As summer gets into full swing, many head to the water for fun, and the new Lake Quinsigamond Task Force is making sure everyone stays safe on the busy waterway.
The joint task force is made up of officers and vessels from the Shrewsbury and Worcester police departments, as well as agencies like the Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Department of Conservation and Recreation. They're not only protecting residents and visitors, but Lt. Sean Murtha says the officers are also enforcing boating and watercraft violations.
"Making sure that the boats are being safe, trying to keep everyone on the lake this summer," Lt. Murtha said. "Obviously there's potential for problems with boats. They're a lot of fun but people can drink too much, people can drive too fast, it can lead to tragedies. So we're just going out there trying to let people know that there are rules you have to follow at the lake to make sure it's safe for everybody."
Lake Quinsigamond Task Force members will be visible throughout the summer boating season.
