WORCESTER, Mass. - The seats are no longer zip-tied. Polar Park is ready for full capacity.

"Getting 2,300 people here was certainly better than getting no people or a lesser amount,” said Worcester Red Sox general manager Dan Rea. “But, to now open it up to a much wider swath gives us all a little kick in our step this week."

The state’s lifting of COVID-19 restrictions allows the WooSox to pack the house for the very first time in team history on Tuesday night.

Some seating areas, like parts of the outfield, are still under construction.

But 7,500 fans will now be able to be in Worcester's newest ballpark for their second stretch at home.

"We want it to be an escape for people, and to get away from some of the worries of life and just be able to enjoy themselves here at the ballpark,” Rea said. “So, it has been very nice to focus on seating people and doing regular ballpark things here."

Although the first homestand was a massive success, Rea says the team is ready to see how loud it gets.

“When I think about how it sounded with 2,300 people and now I anticipate multiple times that number here in the coming days, I get really excited and I know the players do as well,” Rea said. “Just knowing how much of a home-field advantage this place will confer on us."

The team says construction of the seats in the outfield will be taking place over the next couple of weeks and the hope right now is to have people sitting out there some time in July.
