WORCESTER, Mass. - Commercial airline service will resume at Worcester Regional Airport this summer, following Wednesday's announcement of JetBlue restarting flights to JFK in New York.

JetBlue was one of three commercial airlines -- along with Delta and American -- to halt service from Worcester last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delta was the last commercial airline to stop service in Worcester in 2020, after the airline suspended operations between Worcester and the airline's hub in Detroit on Oct. 1.

According to Delta, there's currently no timetable follow JetBlue's lead and return service to Worcester.

In a released statement to Spectrum News 1, a Delta spokesperson said, "At this time we do not have a date to resume service. We are continuously monitoring demand trends and are rebuilding our network as demand resumes."

Additionally, American Airlines said in a statement, "We’re constantly evaluating our network, but don’t have anything to share at this time." American suspended service in Worcester last spring.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the state's port authority, Massport, said the airport is having ongoing conversations with both Delta and American Airlines.

JetBlue will resume service between Worcester and JFK on Aug. 19 and direct flights to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Oct. 21.
