UPDATE: District Attorney's Office identifies armed man killed by police at Leicester police station

 

LEICESTER, Mass. - The Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal shooting at the Leicester police station, according to District Attorney Joe Early's office.

The District Attorney's office has confirmed the driver of an SUV crashed his vehicle into the closed doors of the police station around 6:15 a.m. Early described the suspect as a white man in his 20s. Responding officers shot and killed the suspect after the suspect had pointed a rifle at them.

  • A suspect was shot and killed by police early Sunday morning after repeatedly crashing his SUV into the police station and then pointing a rifle at responding officers.

  • The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s. He has not been identified at this time.

  • The two responding officers have been placed on administrative leave.

 

The suspect was given medical attention and was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester where he was pronounced deceased. The name of the suspect is being withheld at this time.

Leicester Police Chief Ken Antanavica said the two officers that responded to the scene have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. 

Both sides of South Main Street in Leicester were closed by police Sunday morning as they conducted their investigation.

Prior to Sunday's events at the station, Worcester Regional Dispatch Center watched surveillance video of the suspect crashing his vehicle into the police station in real-time. They contacted officers who then responded to the scene. 

Police say there is no danger to the public.  We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
