WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Red Sox inaugural season at Polar Park is scheduled to start in three weeks.
The WooSox brass led a tour around the ballpark with city leaders. The team is preparing for the start of the 2021 season with numerous COVID-19 protocols.
The team will be able to host just more than 1,100 fans when they open their gates for the first time on May 11, when they host the Syracuse Mets as part of a 12-game homestand.
City Manager Ed Augustus said, "I am just impressed beyond belief. You look at this site and remember what is was three years ago. It was an abandoned parking lot with weeds up to your waist. It has been turned into this and it is been turned into this. It is already attracting so much energy and enthusiasm about the city. People can't wait to get in here and enjoy games. "
Worcester Red Sox president Dr. Charles Steinberg said,"It is very much a ballpark designed by the people, for the people."
