Back in November, Spectrum News 1 spoke with members from Beer Bro's of Mass, a group on Facebook created during the pandemic to lift spirits and deliver alcohol to strangers. They put together a calendar where men were posing for a good cause. Now they are back at it again, but this time with a different calendar for a different cause.

PJ Hurtado and his wife Kim founded the group. The first round of calendars included PJ and his friends.

"At first I was like why, they don't want to see me in a calendar? Then when I saw this done, there is a reason why this one is done the way it is and it is really great."

Instead of the Beer Bros, it's the Beer Babes making an appearance in the 2021 calendar. The first time they did this fundraising effort, it benefited Lorraine's Soup Kitchen, but this time it is for a cause hitting even closer to home.

"There are some amazing charities out there that are huge. Make a Wish, Wounded Warriors, the big ones," said Hurtado. "But sometimes there are ones right in your neighborhood that you can help people out."

They are giving all the money to Reysean Strong

The fund supports 18-year-old Reysean Maldonado. Back in 2018, he was on his way home when he was hit by a car going 71 mph. Maldonado was in a crosswalk on his bicycle.

"The doctors were saying he wasn't going to make it, he went through multiple surgeries and he beat the odds," said Reysean's dad, Reynaldo. "Here he is with us today, doing well, healthy."

Reysean had to learn to walk, talk, and eat all over again, but he has made tremendous progress. His dad Reynaldo connected with the Beer Bro's group on Facebook and is part of the group who helps spread positive vibes and do things to help the community. When Reynaldo heard they wanted to help his son, he was grateful.

"It means a lot because I know how much it means to get something in return and getting my son back is one of the biggest things I can ever get and I will give as much as I can and just share that," he said.

Hurtado, his wife, and other members of the group say helping one of their own is what it is all about.

"Sometimes after you go through something, maybe you can get a little love, support, help, maybe it's just a way to get away and make sure this story stays alive, too," said Hurtado.

The calendars are still for sale for $20 each. Anyone interested in purchasing one can reach out to the group on their Facebook page.
