WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. - Golfers are busy working on their drives using the simulators at Wachusett Country Club.
“Probably ever since the second week in December until now. It’s been sold out pretty much every day," said Wachusett CC co-owner Nick Marrone.
With many Massachusetts golf courses closed for the winter and the pandemic still in full swing, golfers say they’re glad to be able to play.
Golfer Scott Peters said, “We have come here even more than we would normally just because you have the chance to golf and it’s one of the few places you can golf and really enjoy yourself. “
“It’s been a rough year for anything so it’s just Kinda nice we can get out and be with the guys and just kinda like goof around," said golfer Austin Sands.
People are able to play the Wachusett and Kettle Brook Golf Club courses virtually, as well as courses from around the country. However, staff says the local greens are the most popular.
And with golf courses being one of the last things to open up after lasts year’s shut down, indoor golf is helping make up for lost business.
Marrone said, “We thought that we might see a COVID-effect, but we haven’t. Just like with golf booming this year due to COVID, indoor golf has been booming as well. So it’s been good it been exciting for us.”
The country club says they're also following COVID-19 precautions to keep games safe.
