The Worcester License Commission is discussing what can be done to improve outdoor dining in the city.
Many residents and business owners are taking advantage of outdoor seating at restaurants as a safe way to get out of the house and enjoy a meal. The City of Worcester is looking at ways to improve outdoor dining and are seeking feedback from restaurant owners.
The License Commission will hold a virtual forum to discuss regulations and requirements for dining outdoors. During the forum, restaurant owners will have the chance to share any challenges they have faced in the past several weeks. They can also share concepts they have used to be successful during the temporary outdoor program.
Quinn's Irish Pub put tables under tents outside and are finding creative ways to maximize capacity. They have a handful of tables inside that are socially distanced. They put tables near the bar since no one is allowed to sit at the bar under the state's orders.
Jackie Lawlor has been employed with the pub since they have opened and said this experience has been different and has had it's challenges but she is happy to be back safely and seeing their customers..
Lawlor said, "It's been awesome. Our customers are really doing great with wearing their masks when they get up to play Keno or get up to use the bathroom. They are doing great. It's just nice to be back and be back to work. It's almost back to normal, not quite there yet but we'll get there soon hopefully.”
Lawlor added they have had some challenges with lighting at night and being close to the railroad tracks but they have been able to navigate through those minor obstacles.
The License Commission’s virtual meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 AM. For details on how to participate, click here for the city's website.
