The EcoTarium announced its shutting its doors this coming fall and winter months.

The science and nature museum says attendance is down nearly 90 percent due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The EcoTarium also plans to reduce the number of staff members. The museum's animals will remain on-site and be cared for.

Board members and museum leaders will look for ways to generate revenue in hopes of reopening before the end of the year.

Last year, the EcoTarium set an annual attendance record with more than 178,000 visitors.
