WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester’s oldest house is off the market. After just 24 hours, an offer was made and accepted on the Benjamin Flagg House.

When you walk into 136 Plantation Street, it’s a step back in time.

“I was thrilled to list it and see a piece of Worcester history," said Joe Abramoff, realtor at Real Living Barbera Associates.

According to state records, the Captain Benjamin Flagg house was built around 1717 and is the city’s oldest house. It’s on the National Register of Historic places.

"The Flagg family was actually granted a 150 acre parcel by the king of England when they came over," Abramoff said.

City records say part of the property burned down in 1786, and led Flagg to create the Worcester Fire Society. Spectrum News 1 got a tour of the historic home. The floors are original and there are a couple fireplaces. The main fireplace was rebuilt by the current owner.

“In late 90s, the property was in tough shape. So, with a focus on preservation, he brought the house back to life," Abramoff said.

But soon the home will have a new owner. Realtor Joe Abramoff said a strong offer was placed on the house, within 24 hours of it going up for sale. The asking price was $339,000.

“It’s very indicative of current market,” Abramoff said. “Houses are going very quickly right now, with low interest rates, and a shortage of inventory buyers are moving very quickly.”

And Abramoff said the current owner hopes, the newest owner will keep the home's old-fashioned character.
