  • A few dozen members participated in the demonstration

  • All Peoples' core values are to stand up and defend human rights when it comes to a variety of social justice issues

Chants and songs rang out from the Metro Hall's steps as a few dozen members from All Peoples gathered for the demonstration.

“We’re glad it’s not raining, and we just want to let Louisville know that justice is a major part of our faith.”“We came out with our signs today,” said Rev. Bruce Beisner, All Peoples’ minister. “We’re glad it’s not raining, and we just want to let Louisville know that justice is a major part of our faith.”

Signs in support of reproductive rights and the LGBTQ+ community were visible among the crowd.

“Our core values as religious people call us to stand up for our neighbors, to protect women, to respect women, to respect women’s bodies and to recognize that they should have the right to make their own decisions, to protect our LGBTQ friends and neighbors and make sure that their rights are preserved,” Beisner said.

Those values drew Betsy Vanaria to join All Peoples’ congregation when she moved to Louisville a few months ago. She attended Saturday’s rally.

“In my mind, we’re all equal, and I’ve always felt that way," Vanaria said. "I just think it’s important for people to start just making it more vocal."

It's a message All Peoples members said they believe is timely.

“Our faith is about being responsive to what’s happening in our world, and what’s happening in our world right now is that there are folks who have some agendas who are going to be taking power in many parts of our country,” Beisner said.

He also said All Peoples is ready to stand up and defend people’s rights.

Another rally was held in Frankfort in solidarity with All Peoples’ demonstration in Louisville.
