After coming off one of the warmest February's on record, it looks like Mother Nature might bring back a taste of winter.

What You Need To Know

  • This February was in the top 10 warmest February's on record

  • Tree pollen has been moderate to high

  • Below average highs are possible mid-March

  • Spring arrives on March 20

The birds have been chirping, sunshine has been out in full force and temperatures have been well above average over the last few months.

February will be a month to remember, with most days above average. Louisville had its third warmest February on record. Lexington and Bowling Green came in second for the warmest on record for the month.

We are running about three to four weeks ahead of schedule with trees and flowers already in bloom.

Look at our pollen report. For weeks now, we have had tree pollen in the moderate to high category, which would explain all the sneezing and allergies already starting up for folks.

But, with all that said, I don't think we are through with winter. Keep in mind, spring doesn't officially arrive until March 20.

Look at the eight to 14-day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center. It shows colder-than-normal air is likely to return.

I know it's tempting to start planting outdoors, but it's always a safe bet to wait until after Derby or even Mother's Day.
