It wouldn’t be summer in Kentucky if it wasn’t hot and humid, and this summer has been no exception.

Over the last week, we’ve been staying away from the really toasty and muggy weather. However, that may change as we look ahead to the rest of July.

What You Need To Know

  • The dome of heat is over the western United States

  • We expect the ridge to slide east later this month

  • Above average temperatures will return

The upper level ridge that brought us the dangerously hot weather to start the month has moved into the western parts of the country and has taken the extreme heat with it.

Northwesterly flow has also brought down some less humid air from the north.

Moving into the latter half of July, the ridge looks to redevelop farther east. Although no data as of right now places the ridge directly over us, most data has the eastward trend.

The Climate Prediction Center currently has an outlook of Kentucky experiencing above average temperatures in the latter half of July.
