LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 2022 Breeder’s Cup is almost here and to help greet the throngs of fans expected to attend the event, the Blue Grass Airport (BGA) is getting ready.

The facility is partnering closely with airlines, Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Signature Flight Support (private aviation) to ensure a smooth operation.

What You Need To Know

  • The Breeder's Cup is Nov.4 and Nov.5

  • Blue Grass Airport (BGA) will increase flight and parking capacity

  • Arriving passengers will receive Makers Mark bourbon balls

  • Bluegrass bands will play live music

The airport is also working with rental car companies, ground transportation providers, and parking providers to welcome travelers to the area. Other steps the BGA is taking to accommodate the swell in traffic are increasing the number of flights plus adding extra parking capacity.

“Planning for events such as this takes at least one year of preparation and lots of coordination with our partners. We are thankful for the support of our on-site partners and all the staff that creates such a positive travel experience for our guests,” said Eric Frankl, president & CEO of Blue Grass Airport via news release.

There will be more entertaining aspects tied to BGA’s welcome mat too. Retail shops will sell Breeder’s Cup merchandise. In addition, the airport will host live bluegrass bands, and offer “Food tastings and bourbon-related experiences” on site.

Arriving passengers will even receive complimentary bourbon balls courtesy of Makers Mark. “Blue Grass Airport is tremendously proud to host international and U.S. visitors for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” Frankl said.

This year, Blue Grass Airport celebrates 75 years of commercial air service.
