LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville's men's basketball team is trading baskets for home runs.

The team will participate in a charity softball game called "Louisville Basketball: The Show" on Monday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium. The game will feature the 2021-2022 UofL men's basketball players and coaches. 

Admission isn't being charged instead fans are asked to donate to Jaxen's Journey. The charity honors UofL strength and conditioning coach Andy Kettler's son Jaxen, who died of brain cancer in 2016. He was only two years old. Kettler and his wife Kimbraly started Jaxen's Journey to help pediatric cancer research. 

Tickets are now available for a charity softball game. Fans select the number of tickets they want, free of charge at Ticketmaster. Once the tickets are in their cart and they proceed to check out, there is an opportunity to make a donation to Jaxen's Journey. 

Accoring to a news release sent to Spectrum News 1, UofL says the teams were selected in a draft with senior forward Malik Williams and graduate transfer Jarrod West making the selections.

After the game, there will be an autograph session and an exclusive trading card set featuring team members, contests and other promotions. Fans will be able to buy Cardinal gear and concessions at the game. 

Fans are also asked to bring non-perishable food items to the game. There will be collection bins outside the stadium gates. All the food collected will go to the Cardinal Cupboard, the university's campus food pantry for students.  Fans who donate food items will be entered in a drawing for the chance to win Kroger gift cards.
