LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There is a new endpoint for racers in the Derby Festival's miniMarathon, Marathon, and Relay. Lynn Family Stadium, the new home for the Louisville FC soccer club is home to the new finish line.
The mini, Marathon, and Relay wil all start simultaneously at 7:30 a.m. on Main Street near Slugger Field and will finish on Adams Street, right outside of the stadium. After finishing the race and getting their medals, runners will be able to go inside the new facility for a firsthand look of the stadium.
“We’re excited to team up with Louisville City FC for this move. It’s a big win for our runners,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO. “It provides the perfect backdrop for runners as they cross the Finish Line and celebrate their huge accomplishment.”
“Having runners finish these races in Lynn Family Stadium will be tremendous,” Louisville City FC President Brad Estes said. “Finishing a Marathon or miniMarathon is a massive accomplishment for these athletes and to have that memory occur in our new home is special. We look forward to fielding a team of runners from Louisville City to run this year’s mini as well.”
The move will mean a few changes at the beginning and end of the race. For the first mile of the race, runners will go through the 18th Street corridor, passing the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage before hitting Broadway. Mile 2 through the rest of the race is unchanged until the finish. As runners near the finish line, they will make a right on Witherspoon and head for Lynn Family Stadium.
Runners can register for the races online.
