MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Parents of students at Manhattan Beach Middle School are expected to speak out Wednesday night at a scheduled board meeting one week after an unloaded firearm was found on campus. Parents and faculty at the school told Spectrum News that they believe last week’s incident was mishandled.

On March 19, an unloaded firearm was found in a student’s backpack. In a statement shared with Spectrum News, a representative for the district said the following:

“The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Right now, more than ever, we understand that safety is at the forefront of our community’s concerns. We want to emphasize and reassure our community that our administration followed proper procedures to protect everyone on campus.”
