LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Heritage of India Foundation (HOIF) put on its annual India Fest on Saturday. It’s an event to celebrate diversity that gives people a chance to enjoy Indian culture.
Vendors from different restaurants sold food, people browsed through clothes and jewelry, and there was a cooking competition.
“I am very thankful to the organizers who have given us the opportunity to participate in different cultural activities, including the cooking competition, and I hope they keep doing it for the years to come,” said Mita Ray, a cooking competition participant.
Ray represented her state, Odessa in East India, by making a milk rice cake. She used a family recipe that has been passed down through generations.
The India Fest is a way for the HOIF to raise money so it can continue its mission of uplifting the local Indian community and promote diversity.
“We need to take advantage of this platform where we come together and show and share our best part of the culture, best part of the food,” said Sushil Gupta, the president of the HOIF. “I think we need to find the common thread. I think that’s what we are trying to do here… provide a common thread to tie us together.”
This was the second year that the HOIF has put on the India Fest.
