LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several Kentuckians made their way to Washington, D.C. to watch President Donald Trump’s inauguration, including many Republican state officials.
The cold weather may have moved Trump’s inauguration indoors, but that didn’t stop supporters from gathering to watch. John McCarthy, the Republican Party of Kentucky’s national committeeman, watched from a nearby arena.
“People are finding their way to celebrate this great occasion, and even the long lines to get in today, people just were taking it all in stride, moving forward and having fun,” McCarthy said.
He also said there were many other Kentuckians in attendance.
“There are Kentuckians that are on the floor,” McCarthy said. “There are Kentuckians that are up top. There are Kentuckians everywhere in this building that are celebrating.”
The long lines may have prevented State Rep. Vanessa Grossl, R-Georgetown, and her mother from making it into the arena, but they found an alternative.
“We moved into this coffee shop,” Grossl said. “We have a TV here, our pastries and our coffee, so we’re going to enjoy the inauguration from here.”
Both Republican officials said they look forward to Trump’s administration over the next four years.
“Everyone is excited for us to usher in this America-first policy agenda that’s going to be pro-technology and innovation for our future generations,” Grossl said.
"I really do think the American people and the people that have made the effort to come to Washington to celebrate this occasion are just ready for the next step for our country,” McCarthy said.
The festivities didn’t end at the conclusion of the inauguration. Grossl had tickets to a ball Monday evening that she said Trump was expected to attend.
