Elise LaPierre is spending her Christmas helping others.

“It’s a tough time for a lot of people during Christmas. So it’s a good way to spread some cheer,” she said.

She is one of hundreds of people helping to make Christmas special at Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville.

“We are going to serve between 2,500 and 3,000 meals today. And that is a whole lot. Without these kinds of folks coming in, we could not get this done,” said Jacob Ragains with Wayside.

The holiday meal featured turkey, holiday ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and candied yams.

Volunteers prepared more than 40 turkeys that were donated to the charity.

“It just shows how well our cause is supported by individuals. Especially showing up on a day like today. They are taking time away from their family to be here and serve those who are less fortunate,” said Ragains.

For volunteers like LaPierre, who are spending Christmas away from home, they are happy to be a part of the Wayside Christian Mission’s annual tradition.

“This is a great opportunity. I thought it was a good time. My family is spread out pretty far and wide. So I just figured I’d stay around the area and see what I could do to help in the community,” said LaPierre.

All to help bring joy to this holiday.

Wayside Christian Mission say they are always seeking volunteers.

Trainings are held every Saturday.
