BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Warren County Public Schools celebrated Computer Science Week by learning about how to implement new technology into the classroom, participating in hands-on projects at Green River Educational Cooperative.
“These are teachers from all levels, K through 12, coming to learn about technology that they can take back to their school and be an ambassador for their whole staff," said David Vance, digital learning coach for WCPS.
Teachers learned about how to use drones, 3D modeling, computer science, coding and robotics. It’s not just for fun, as they'll soon have the ability to implement this technology into the classroom.
“And then ultimately share (it) with our coworkers, teachers, staff, so that all of this technology can be integrated into our schools," said Blair Hanes, Alvaton Elementary school technology coordinator.
The National Skills Coalition, an organization that advocates for skills training for businesses, found one-third of workers do not have the foundational digital skills necessary to thrive in today’s jobs.
Workshops like these can help curb that statistic and give teachers the necessary skills to pass on to students before they enter the workforce.
“There are so many job opportunities that appeal to the technology field," Hanes said. "There (are) ways they can integrate this into their high school or college experience and into their professional lives."
