LEXINGTON, Ky. — One of central Kentucky’s biggest fundraisers for Nonprofits is back for its 13th year. The GoodGiving Challenge is a four-day online giving challenge for nonprofits in and around Lexington.
Life Adventure Center in Versailles uses outdoor adventure to help people impacted by trauma. It is one of nearly 200 nonprofits a part of this year’s annual GoodGiving Challenge, with over $6000 raised so far.
“From challenge course to equine assisted learning, archery; we have a pond where we do some canoeing and some labyrinth walking,” said Executive Director Julie Breitigan.
Breitigan says everyone’s first time at the center starts with this adventure pig toss to get people to break the ice. Last year, they worked with over 3,000 participants.
“We want to work with more partners and help more participants,” Breitigan said.
Life Adventure Center depends mostly on donations.
“These end-of-the-year donations are really what help support nonprofits. An organization like ours has very seasonal rhythms, so the support we get at the year end from our donors and supporters is huge for us,” Breitigan said.
Life Adventure Center has programming for kids, as well as team building programming for groups. It is open year-round.
“We would love to have people come out for a tour, we have groups of all sizes come out and we love to support the community,” said Rachel Rubino, philanthropy manager.
Since 2011, the GoodGiving Challenge has raised over $23 million for nonprofits. As it stands currently, over $1 million has been raised for 197 organizations with over 2,600 donors. The GoodGiving Challenge ends Friday.
