LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Interstate 65 southbound lanes near the University Boulevard exit in Louisville are open after a multi-car crash shut it down for hours Tuesday morning.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the team handling the cleanup reopened the roadway as of 9:50 a.m. “It may take a bit to get traffic flowing again normally,” LMPD shared on X.

All lanes of I-65 south at mile marker 133 were closed down for much of the morning. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 reported the accident a little after 6:30 a.m.

According to LMPD, there were five cars involved in the crash. Earlier in the morning, they said they were attempting to clean up diesel fuel from the collision. “65SB from the Kennedy is pretty much a parking lot,” LMPD said during the closure.

LMPD also encouraged people to follow TRIMARC Traffic, KYTC District 5 and Louisville Metro Emergency Services for updates.
