LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Personal security, the security of your vote and the ballot box are on quite a few people’s minds right now.

What You Need To Know

  • Jefferson County Clerk's office is prepared for Tuesday's election

  • All equipment has been tested and all ballot boxes are tamper-proof

  •  No election equipment is connected to the internet

The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office is confident all votes will be secure on Tuesday.

“We test all of the equipment prior to the election and we can say with 100% certainty that all of the votes will be secure on Election Day,” said Ashley Tinius, Jefferson County Clerk’s Office Director of Communications.

Even though ballot drop boxes are at different locations around the city, Tinius said they are even more than regular mail. She added the ballots are collected every day by employees.

“If your ballot is in one of those, it is safe. They’re tamper-proof. So, there’s nothing to worry about with those.” Tinius explained.

On Election Day, the clerk’s office works with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

“…And we’ve got trained election officers, so if something happens at any of the polling places, there will be security there to make sure people are safe and are able to get their votes cast on election day.” Tinius said.

Spectrum News 1 asked her specifically about hackers.

“We do not have any of our election equipment connected to the internet and I think voters should feel very, very good [about] that. Our equipment is plugged into the wall, but there is no signal going out anywhere. So, there’s nothing that can be hacked from our DS200 voting machines, which is what are at all of our polling places.” Tinius explained.

Early voters were pleased with the process.

“It was great, really,” said Norma Willis. She added it was, “…easy, great.”

Another voter, Hunter King, said, “I think it was good.” “They had some sheriff’s sitting at the front. Everything was pretty organized. Easy process,” he added.

Tinius said election results will be certified to the Secretary of State’s Office by noon on Nov. 8.

Tinius added it’s good for people to know that they’ve been in talks with Louisville’s Mayor, Louisville Metro Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. She said they are feeling very secure about Election Day.
