LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville men’s basketball team finished its exhibition slate with a 99-54 thumping of Spalding at the KFC Yum! Center Monday evening.
The Cardinals hit six of their first nine shots to go up 14-6 in the first five minutes of the game. Louisville then went on a 12-0 run, jumpstarted by a Noah Waterman three. Koren Johnshon capped it off with the final five points of the run. UofL led 21-6 with a little over 13 minutes left on the clock.
Louisville held Spalding without a field goal in the final 10 minutes of the half. The Cardinals used a 25-5 run in that time to take a 53-21 lead into the break. Kasean Pryor had 15 points in the first half.
In the second half, Spalding narrowed the Louisville lead to 24 points before the Cards leapt out to another 24-5 run, taking their lead to 50 points. Johnson scored 12 of those 24 points.
UofL logged 21 steals while holding Spalding to 36.4% shooting from the field. They were led in scoring by Pryor, who went three-for-three from the arc and tallied 26 points. He went nine of 12 from the field overall. Johnson also added 20 points with three assists and four steals in his 23 minutes of gameplay.
Spalding’s leading scorer was Anthony Dillard, who had 15 points.
Louisville tips off the season at home on Monday, Nov. 4 against in-state foe Morehead State at 7 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center.
