  • The plane was attempting to land at Bowman Field

  • There were two people in the plane and two people in vehicle that the plane hit. Three of the four were taken to the hospital

  • The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating

According to a Bowman Field spokesperson, the plane crashed at the intersection of Kresge Way and Breckenridge Lane. The plane hit a vehicle and damaged traffic lights.

Three of the four people—two in the plane and two in the vehicle—were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries isn’t known.

According to the FAA Aircraft Registry, the plane is registered to Stephan Wright of Charlestown, Indiana. It is a fixed-wing, single-engine plane, originally manufactured in 1961.

John Secor, the airport manager for the Clark Country Regional Airport, spoke to Spectrum News 1 about the crash and the issue that might have caused it. Secor said, “I have a suspicion there was some sort of in-flight emergency. Some sort of in-flight failure, possibly. Maybe engine. And they had to make a decision on landing someplace off airport and that someplace is here. My suspicion is that the way the airplane is lined up and the traffic light is sheared, that they had made a turn to line up and land on Breckenridge heading towards the Watterson.”

St. Matthews Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. The Louisville Regional Airport Authority owns Bowman Field and, according to the spokesperson, is working with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board to learn what happened.
