OWENTON, Ky. — A video released from the Amigo Mexican restaurant on Highway 22 in Owenton shows the wreckage from a medical helicopter crash Monday night.

The footage shows plumes of smoke billowing up in the middle of a field next to a parked fire truck. According to the Owenton, Owen County Fire and Owen County Rescue Departments, the crash happened near the restaurant on 1640 Highway 22 East.

 

Three crew members of the Air Evac Lifeteam medical helicopter died in the crash. The Grant County Constable’s office identified the three crew members as Gale Alleman, Bethany Aicken and James Welsh. The crew was based out of Grant County, Kentucky, and were on their way to pick up a patient.

An initial report from the Federal Aviation Administration said the helicopter hit a guy-wire and crashed, causing a fire.
