The governor announced he would be speaking in a post on X, saying he would share a message of “hope, freedom and unity.”

“I’m going to be speaking tonight at the Democratic National Convention from this stage to a full arena, talking about how we’ve got to elect Kamla Harris as the next President of the United States,” Beshear shared.

Beshear is considered a rising star in the national Democratic party after defeating two Republicans backed by former President Donald Trump in the race for governor. He was floated as part of a shortlist of candidates for vice president before Kamala Harris selected Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota. Polling released just before Walz’s selection showed Beshear as the most popular Democratic governor in the country.

The convention’s opening night lineup also includes President Joe Biden, whose speech is expected to represent a passing of the torch from the 81-year-old president to his 59-year-old VP.
