LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville gains another Hall of Famer.
Head women’s golf coach Whitney Young is being inducted into the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 class. The Glasgow native has led the Cards for the past five seasons.
Young has been with UofL seven seasons, having served as an assistant coach for Courtney Trimble for two seasons before being tabbed to take over head coaching duties when Trimble retired.
Under Young, the Cards have advanced as a team to a pair of NCAA Regionals, including hosting a regional for the first time in 2021. Young has also helped mentor some of the program’s best players, including Lauren Hartlage, who finished fifth at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and Kendall Griffin, who finished third at the 2022 ACC Championship, the highest individual finish in program history at the ACC Championships.
Young made her mark in professional golf. She registered nine Top-10 finishes in 47 starts on the FUTURES Tour from 2008 to 2010. She also competed in three U.S. Open events.
While in college at Georgia, Young was a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American and had three Top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. She helped the Bulldogs win 10 team titles, including the 2007 SEC Championship.
Coach Young began building a name for herself in the world of golf when she was in high school. She made national headlines as a fourth-grader representing Glasgow High School at the 1994 Kentucky State Championships. She was the youngest winner of the Kentucky Amateur, doing it as a 13-year-old in 1998. Young won the title in 1999 and 2000 as well.
The 2024 Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at an official ceremony later this year.
