LEXINGTON, Ky. — The wait is almost over. After months of anticipation, Lexington Sporting Club's inaugural USL Super League home match is just weeks away.

Lexington SC will face Tampa Bay Sun FC Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. at the brand-new Lexington SC Stadium, marking a significant milestone for women's professional soccer in the commonwealth. The USL Super League is the highest level of U.S. Soccer's Division One standards and provides a pathway for players to enhance their skills and compete at an elite level. 

"This is a thrilling moment for our community and for women's sports as a whole," said Kim Shelton, Lexington Sporting Club CEO. "We are eager to see fans fill the stadium and support our team as they embark on this incredible journey in the USL Super League. The inaugural match is just the beginning of a bright future for women's soccer in Lexington."

The club said fans should purchase their tickets early. Tickets are available online and by calling 859-201-3932. 

"Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare for this season, and we can't wait to showcase their talent and determination on the field," said Mike Dickey, head coach of the Super League team. "We invite everyone to join us on Sept. 8 to witness history in the making and to cheer on our players as they compete at the highest level."

While finishing construction on its new stadium, Lexington SC added it is continuing to build its formal performance center and training fields. The club also competes in USL League One (U.S. Soccer third division men's professional soccer).

The Super League team will begin play Sunday, Aug. 25 at Carolina Ascent FC before its Sept. 8 home debut. Check out its full schedule on its website
