Kentucky gas prices are falling and down by more than 20 cents compared to this time last year.

  • That's a 24-cent slide from this time last year, when the average price was $3.42 

  • The national average for a gallon of gas has dipped three cents from last week to $3.47

According to AAA East Central, the average price per gallon for the week of Aug. 5, 2024, is $3.18, a six-cent decline from the week of July 29, 2024 ($3.24). That's also 24 cents lower than the week of Aug. 7, 2023, when the average price was $3.42.

Here are the average prices per gallon of unleaded self-serve gasoline in various cities across the state:

AAA said the national average for a gallon of gas has dipped three cents from last week to $3.47. This comes as Hurricane Debby has made landfall in Florida, which has not yet had a significant impact on oil production. The current national average is four cents less than a month ago and 36 cents less than a year ago. 

AAA added per the Energy Information Administration that gas demand slid from 9.45 million barrels per day to 9.25 million last week while total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 227.4 to 223.8 million barrels.
