FRANKFORT, Ky. — Secretary of State Michael Adams, R-Ky., has launched a new poll worker recruitment portal to coincide with National Poll Recruitment Day on Aug. 1.

The portal is now open through the secretary of state’s website.

“We can’t open the polls without volunteer poll workers,” said Adams. “Whether you are a Kentuckian who wants to ensure election integrity, or to prevent voter suppression, being a poll worker is the solution.”

The portal allows volunteers to sign up for their county and sends their information directly to the county clerk.

A statewide election requires up to 15,000 volunteer poll workers, according to the secretary of state’s office. In 2021, Adams said he got the law changed to allow independent voters to serve as poll workers.

To volunteer, poll workers must be registered to vote in the county they serve in and be available to attend training and work all day on voting day.
