LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Simmons College of Kentucky announced the launch of its first ever dual credit program for the fall 2024 semester.

The program will give high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses at Simmons. The school will offer over 25 course across academic disciplines for eligible public and private high school students. Those enrolling can earn credits at Simmons while simultaneously working toward their high school degree.

“High school students have the unique opportunity to enroll in our dual credit courses — embedded in an Afrocentric, family-oriented, and social justice lens– at Simmons while embarking on a transformative educational journey as an HBCU scholar,” said Tytianna Ringstaff, director of the Digital Teaching and Learning Center at Simmons College, who leads the dual credit program. “As a liberal arts college, we are preparing the next generation of college-ready students who are serious about their academic and professional journeys.”

To be eligible, students must have an unweighted, cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Admitted students must meet the college’s minimum GPA requirements and course prerequisites to remain enrolled.

Simmons said the highlights of the program are its “Afrocentric, culturally enriching and social justice-oriented” courses, and the flexibility to take classes in-person or online.
