What You Need To Know

  • Fifth Third Bank recently renovated their financial empowerment mobile bank. They call it the eBus

  • It's an educational bus for budgeting, creating a savings plan or preparing for homeownership

  • The 40-foot bus features face-to-face consultation pods and six computer stations, all for free

  • The eBus is traveling across 13 states, from Michigan all the way to Florida. While in Kentucky the bus will stop in eight different locations in Louisville, Simpsonville and Lexington

It’s a Fifth Third Bank on wheels they call the eBus.

Louisville Main Financial Center Manager for Fifth Third Bank Mike Bucci says it’s not just an educational bus but gives people a chance to ask financial questions about budgeting, creating a savings plan, or preparing for homeownership.

“I’ve seen this make a difference. I’ve had people come on the eBus who I have met, and I have sat with and six months, nine months, 12 months later, they have went from not having enough credit to buy lunch, to be able to buy a new home. And they learn how to balance books and they learn how to balance budgets,” said Bucci.

Regional President Kim Halbauer says the goal of the bus is to bring the bank to underserved communities.

“So not everyone has access in their community to a financial center. And we are so fortunate that we’ve invested in the technology and the capability to bring the bank to the people,” said Halbauer.

Community Impact Manager Adam Hall says they know people are banking differently than they did 20 years ago with everything on their phones, but this 40-foot bus features face-to-face consultation pods and six computer stations, all for free.

“A person can come on the bus if they need food assistance or rental housing assistance or employment assistance. They can put in their zip code and it’ll bring up a list of organizations that can help them, even with child care,” said Hall.

Bucci says many people are filled with anxiety and stress when it comes to finances and this bus aims to break that barrier in bringing financial professionals, mortgage lenders, investment experts and bankers right to their door.

“If it’s something simple like helping to with online banking or homeownership or rebuilding credit, or just coming in, bouncing a budget, whatever it is, if you can make a difference in somebody, help them save five bucks, 10 bucks, $100, whatever it may be, or get them some confidence back. Help them out, get them back on the path,” said Bucci.
